Pilates is our passion – pure and simple.
At MatWorkz, we honor the mission and values of Pilates in everything we do. This revolutionary exercise system has been transforming the lives of people around the world for almost a century, and we continue to reflect the core tenants of this innovative and groundbreaking work.
Unlike other Pilates studios, we cultivate a deeper relationship with our clients – empowering them to access the greatest benefits of Pilates, both physically and mentally. Our teachers unique focus on movement and education, through our Body Awareness approach, provides each of our members with the tools and techniques to access their body’s wisdom and discover their optimal balance.
The key to unlocking the power of Pilates is through instruction – and we have some of the best and most experience people in the local Orlando area. Deborah has created a studio of multi-disciplinary teachers with a broad range of knowledge. She has set the standard for our amazing group of professionals; our teachers have an intimate understanding of the body, studying continually and extensively to develop a mastery of movement. Working together with our clients, they are able to consistently achieve results, from athletic strength building to healing and recovery. We pride ourselves on our team of dedicated instructors, who lead by listening and love what they do.
What is Pilates?
The Pilates method (pronounced pul-LAH-teez) of body conditioning was developed in the 1920s by the legendary German physical trainer Joseph Hubertus Pilates (December 9, 1880-October 9, 1967).
A submaximal form of training (10 max repetition), Joe’s system was designed to improve the body’s flexibility, strength and endurance. The mind is conditioned and focused through “the art of controlled movement”.
The foundation of Joseph Pilates’ work is his Mat (floor) work, where the weight of the arms and the legs challenges the torso through a set of progressively complex movements. As he continued to develop his system, he designed unique spring resistance equipment, barrels, and “magic circles,” which have hence been integrated into the modern studio environment.
It is through developing the body uniformly as well as honing mental focus that Pilates has gained notoriety. The application of Pilates for elite athletes – as well as in physical therapy – has established its validity and versatility across the world, where it continues to grow.
